Stepping out of Singapore’s vibrant, sun-drenched streets and into a cool, misty world of lush mountain greenery of Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest is an experience unlike any other. This refreshing escape is a breathtaking conservatory that houses one of the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls.

As part of Singapore’s iconic Gardens by the Bay, a true marvel of horticulture and sustainable design, the Cloud Forest offers a unique journey into the realm of rare, high-altitude plants.

For a limited time, this botanical wonderland has an exciting twist: it is also home to the immersive Jurassic World exhibition, adding a prehistoric adventure to the visit. This guide will walk you through everything one needs to know to explore this incredible attraction.

Why Is There a Cold Mountain Inside a Glass Dome in Singapore?

It’s a fair question. The moment you step into the Gardens by the Bay Cloud Forest, prepared to be embraced by the fine, cool mist that hangs in the air. Occupying the view as you walk in is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, cascading 35 metres down the face of a man-made mountain. The roar of the water is both powerful and calming, setting the stage for the unique vertical journey.

The descent is made via the “Cloud Walk,” an aerial walkway that weaves around the exterior of the mountain. This suspended path offers breathtaking, unobstructed views of the conservatory’s canopy and the Marina Bay skyline beyond the glass. Walking amongst the treetops provides a unique perspective on the rich biodiversity. Visitors will find themselves up close with a stunning variety of plant life, including delicate orchids in a myriad of colours, fascinating carnivorous pitcher plants, and an abundance of ferns that thrive in the moist, misty environment.

Special Exhibition: Jurassic World

As if the lush, misty landscape of the Cloud Forest were not magical enough, a thrilling prehistoric adventure currently awaits visitors. For a limited time, the conservatory has been transformed into a living dinosaur habitat with the arrival of the Jurassic World exhibition. This special event offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the popular film franchise in a uniquely immersive setting.

Nestled amongst the real ferns, pitcher plants, and towering foliage, visitors will encounter remarkably lifelike animatronic dinosaurs. One might find a majestic Brachiosaurus, the dinosaur with a long neck,  munching on leaves near the waterfall or hear the unmistakable roar of a Velociraptor, the dinosaur that hunts in packs, from behind a dense thicket of plants.

This special exhibition adds significant value to a visit, especially for families with children or any fans of the movies. The chance to see a Tyrannosaurus Rex peek through the mist or to get a photo with a baby Triceratops provides a layer of fun and fantasy that complements the natural beauty of the surroundings. It turns a botanical exploration into a truly memorable adventure, blending education, horticulture, and blockbuster entertainment in one incredible package.

Education and Conservation

Educational displays throughout the conservatory, like this fascinating look at carnivorous plants, highlight the incredible biodiversity that conservation efforts aim to protect.

Beyond its sheer beauty and immersive exhibits, the Cloud Forest serves a vital educational purpose. As visitors explore the different levels of the mountain, they will uncover hidden gems of knowledge. Informative displays and interactive exhibits dive into the unique geology of fragile cloud forest environments around the world. These displays explain how these ecosystems are formed and why they are home to such a high concentration of rare and endemic species.

More importantly, the conservatory sheds light on the pressing threats these habitats face. The Crystal Mountain and +5 Degrees exhibits vividly illustrate the profound impact of climate change. Visitors learn how a slight increase in global temperatures could cause these unique cloud forests to disappear, leading to a catastrophic loss of biodiversity. This educational component transforms a simple visit into a powerful reminder of our planet’s fragility and the importance of conservation efforts. It encourages a deeper appreciation for the delicate balance of nature.
